Departmentalization involves structuring an organization to meet objectives by distributing duties across various departments.
As a working mother and wife, I juggle numerous responsibilities daily. Some require immediate attention, but due to fatigue and procrastination, my planned tasks often accumulate.
To manage this, I adopted departmentalization. I categorize my thoughts into departments and tackle my daily activities accordingly.
This approach has allowed me to prioritize urgent tasks and defer others. I can now relax, enjoy time with my family, and manage work stress. Though it might seem unclear now, my departmentalization includes tasks related to work, school, household chores, writing, time with my daughter, time with my husband, and personal time.
Without this system, listing all tasks daily would overwhelm me, causing inaction. Now, I can easily distinguish urgent functions from those that can wait, enhancing my relationship with my daughter and allowing me to catch up on sleep. And sleep is vital for me. It’s more important than eating. Hey, don’t judge me. I became cranky if I didn’t have enough sleep.
Overall, I've become more relaxed and less critical of myself.
